Big Downhill Day here at the Windham World Cup Finals!!!

Blast from the past...HB's 1993 Norba Natl Champ Bike on display.....Shweeeeeet!!!

Amazed by the technology, the HB bike is a total hit in the pits....I've overheard at least twenty conversations about the good old days.

The Man of the Day....Greg seems to be relaxed and handling the pressure well.......only 4 points separate him from Gee Atherton and the World Cup Overall...going to be exciting!

Fingers crossed that this bike will have a number 1 plate at the end of the day.

DH results later today....Check out freecaster.tv for live web coverage at 2pm eastern time...the top ten goes off at 3:20pm.

Bye for now from Windham!!!

Stoked for the Windham, NY. World Cup!

After driving for eight of the last nine days the race truck finally arrived in Windham, New York last night. We drove straight from Whistler Crankworx to Colorado Springs, restocked the truck, and then headed to the east coast.

Both trips went really well, but it’s super good to stop and get back to racing at the World Cup Finals-

Fourth Annual Palos Meltdown Brings Strong Turnout

This past weekend SRAM sponsored the Palos Meltdown mountain bike race.  The race is put on by the Chicago Area Mountain Bikers (cambr.org). This year the race brought in 550 riders of all ages and disciplines.

A handful of SRAM employees were in attendance to race and answer questions about new 2X10 XX and X0 that were hanging from display and race bikes.

At the end of the day a SRAM XX group and an XX SID were raffled off.
Be sure to mark your calendars for next year so you can get in on the action.

Thanks to all the volunteers that made the day possible.

The crew at Niner just set-up former president Bush with a new Jet 9 featuring XX drivetrain and a RockShox Reba XX 29". They then went for a ride with Bush and his "Peloton 1" crew on the former president's morning loop.
Word on the street is it was rolling fast.

Cam Zink rides the rollercoaster to his second Crankworx Monster Energy Slopestyle victory!

One of the most exciting gravity fueled events happened over the last nine days in Whistler, B.C. and we were right their, front and center, to help support the biggest and best in the world.  With the close of Kokanee Crankworx, comes the end of racing for over a thousand competitors and a victory that’s close to the SRAM family heart. We rode the rollercoaster of winning and injury since 2004 with Cam Zink and after two knee surgery’s and multiple “bumps and Bruises” in the road, we can only hold him high and celebrate his step to the top of the podium.  Congratulations to Cam on an amazing run, in front of 30,000 spectators.

It feels like putting all of the emotions and injuries of the last 4 years of hard work into a high interest account, and I just cashed out” Cam Zink

Cameron made it home earlier today and is already preparing for RedBull Rampage. Cam is no stranger to the Utah desert and we can’t wait to see what he brings to the table!

XX DOUBLE RAINBOW

Sunday august 8th 2010 the town of St. Wendel, Germany, was the stage of the Marathon World Championships. XX riders once again dominated the competition taking the rainbow jerseys in both the men and women's races, after 107km of grueling and tight racing. To better understand how hard it is, the first six riders in the men's field all arrived within 9 seconds...after almost four hours of racing!!!
 Here are the results:
1st place men: Albana Lakata (AUT-Team Topeak Ergon) - XX.
3rd place: Burry Stander (RSA-Specialized Factory Racing) - XX.

1st place women: Esther Süss (SUI-Wheeler iXS Pro Team) - XX.
2nd place: Sabine Spitz (GER-Team Ghost Central) - XX.
3rd place: Annika Langvad (DEN- Team Danmark)

Ross Schnell takes 3rd at Crankworx Enduro

Photo: Colin Meagher

Day 4 of the Kokanee Crankworx brought another exciting day of racing. Today’s Canadian Open Enduro had sunny skies but the rains from yesterday kept things interesting on course. The second year of this event had a strong group of talent with Whistler locals up against the best racers from the US and Europe.

The race started above the Garbonzo and hits blue and black routes all the way down to finish.  The mass start mixed with quick climbs and the technical descents made for a real test of skill.

SRAM drive train dominated the field with a first, second and third place in the men’s pro class. SRAM/Trek racer and 3rd place finisher Ross Schnell said,  “It was super fun dicing it up with all the Euros. This is definitely the hardest Enduro course I’ve ever done, and the fastest field I’ve ridden against in North America.

Nice work Ross. Keep it up! Check out pinkbike.com in the next few days for a video interview of Ross in the SRAM VIP Lounge recapping the race and giving everyone a closer look at what specific SRAM, Rockshox and Avid parts hung on his frame for this event. Good luck at the Breck Epic in a few weeks.

Team SRAM races downhill around the clock!

Last weekend (august 7th and 8th) a bunch of SRAMmies took part in the 24H downhill race held at the Semmering Bike Park in Austria. We decided to give a go at this crazy idea of racing downhill around the clock under the team name "Bottom Out Hard powered by SRAM", with our team featuring an ecletic mix of german downhill talent, fast DSD technicians and a couple of marketing guys thrown in for a laugh. The goal was simple: to ride as many runs as possible on the track for 24 hours. The team with more runs won.
Of course a big part of the fun was the roadtrip itself, where we had plenty of time to enjoy the rain on the german and austrian highways and lots of healthy food, perfect for athletes like us!
This is pretty much all we saw for the seven hours drive from Schweinfurt to Semmering: rain and traffic jams.
Of course we got to the venue super late and had to setup our HUGE pit area in the middle of the night. At least we were under a starry sky...but not for long!
In fact on saturday morning, as soon as we were getting ready for a couple of practice run, it started to rain. This turned the Le Mans style start, with over 150 riders scrambling for their bikes on a wet grassy field, into a slip'n'slide festival! Here our starter Josch Hein tackles his bike - litterally!
The mass start meant one thing: 150 riders trying to squeeze into the first corner, moto-style. Carnage ensued.
The top half of the course was cut entirely on ski slopes and consisted of widely taped, off-camber grassy corners. Here Josch tests the limit of his tires on the second lap.
But he got it right the next lap...and the next one...and again: in the end Josch clocked the fastest laps amongst all 400 racers, and put in something like 35 runs for our team. Good job!
The track wasn't really hard, but the super fast lift meant you were clocking a 3 and half minute run every 5 minutes. With the rain, mud and cold, it was easy to get exhausted quickly. Our team mate Andre didn't really care, and kept riding well into the night, when some guys (err...) gave it up to catch a bit of sleep.
This was approximately halfway through the race. Deep ruts had formed, the rain eased up, and the track was super fun to ride.
The only downside was that the "free pasta" provided by the organizer turned out to be an overcooked mess with some dodgy sauces...thankfully Phillipp a.k.a. Fluffy had brought his coffe machine and pumped out cappuccinos and lattes for us all!
Damp. Cold. Misty. Fun.
In the end we did quite well, placing 4th amongst over 20 teams of 6 people, just two runs behind the winning team! A big part of this results is thanks to Maurice (left, with the green beanie), our 7th team member. He was too young to race, so he came over anyways to help manage the transponder changes and hand us clean gloves and goggles at the lift. He NEVER slept for the whole 24 hours and managed to always keep a rider on track, well done! We ended up doing 150 runs with a total running time of 9 hours, 36 minutes and 53 seconds!

Follow Jesse!

 Hey All,

I invite you all to follow my progress while I race the Colorado Trail Race (CTR) starting Monday Aug 2nd.
www.Trackleaders.com/ctr <http://www.trackleaders.com/ctr>

How long does it last?  As long as it takes to pedal from Denver to Durango or till say uncle, completely embarrass my self and quit!
What kind of crazy event is this?  Well to start it’s not really an organized event; there are no waivers, entry fees or prizes.  There are no feed zones, check points or stages and sleeping is optional.  This is one big hiking trip except it’s a race.  And it’s on bikes.  And there are 40 other demented people doing it but it’s a soul crusher and maybe only a dozen will make it to the end.
Why only so few that finish you ask?  You need to follow a set route (the Colorado Trail with Wilderness area detours) but it isn’t marked.  Navigating at 3am with dying batteries on day 4 might not be so easy!  Oh and it’s 500 miles long with 70,000 feet of climbing with no outside assistance allowed what so ever.  Just you, your bike and the least amount of gear you think you can survive in.

I’m excited to do this but I’m not sure I realize what I’m getting myself into!  Hopefully I’ll be back in the office by Monday Aug 9th and if you need me before that you’ll have to hunt down my SPOT marker and find me cause I will not be checking my messages
