Mellow Classic 2009

The MTB crew headed to Austin, Texas for a day at Mellow Johnny's to discuss the XX group with staff and customers during packet pick up for the inaugural Mellow Classic MTB race at Juan Pelota's ranch.

We then headed to the ranch in Dripping Springs to set up the big rig so we could take care of any needs riders would have, as well as build a zone for XX to be experienced and touched.  The days proceeding the race were cold and wet producing a more technical ride during Sunday's race.  XX athletes rocking full groups including various suspension choices, were non other than, Lance Armstrong, Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski, Heather Irmiger, Chris Lieto and various SRAM staff.  Jeremy and Heather both won with authority and our vary own Chris Hilton went the distance.
All in all, it was a great event and Lance was a gracious host despite having flatted during his own race...  Please feel free to check out the photos from our adventure in Texas...

2009 IceMan Cometh Challenge - JHK Wins on XX

The 2009 Iceman Cometh Challenge is a point to point mountain bike race held traditionally on the first Saturday of November. The race starts in downtown Kalkaska, Michigan and finishes twenty eight miles later on the eastern edge of Traverse City, Michigan. The course consists primarily of dirt roads, two-tracks (the majority of the course), abandoned railroad beds, and the world famous Vasa Nordic ski trail.

SRAM attended the event expo; booth visitors arrived having read about XX and wanting to see it in person.  Most were clear about the run down of the group, its benefits, and intended use.  We also heard from recent converts to Red, Force and Rival.  They love the road groups; specifically Rival on cross bikes. There was definitely a very positive feel from the attendees.  We spoke with riders, shop owners & employees, along with other exhibitors, Trek and Specialized reps.

On Race day riders were able to borrow bikes from the Specialized Demo Truck.  Almost all chose 29ers equipped with XX.  The rolling sandy terrain was ideal for 29ers sporting the 26/39 gearing in the front and the wide range 11-36 XX cassette in the back.  

The Pro Men's podium was stacked with Subaru Gary Fisher racers.  Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski took home the win finishing in 1:34:02 with his teammate Sam Schultz finishing close behind in second.  Teammate and JHK's spouse,  Heather Irmiger also made the podium, placing third in the Pro Women's group.

The Subaru Gary Fisher team race on SRAM, RockShox, Avid and Truvativ components.  All three competed on SRAM's 2x10 XX groupset.

Jay from EWR does a great job running his show here on the East coast. Jay drops us a line and let's us know what's going on in his scene...

Indian Summer winds down here, so does the dirt jump season.  We are all so reluctant to let it go, but there is the inevitable in the air.  The season has been wicked, and there was a lot of great riding going down.  The 20" and MTB worlds here are all cool w/each other and every week has been a serious progression session. Here is some footage of what the Bethlehem, PA scene looks like, including my buddy Dale's Trails in his back yard under the lights.  You'll see alot more from there in the next DH-Productions video premier of "Here We Go Again" at the 2010 Sea Otter.

Anneke Beerten - 2009 Year in Review Video

Anneke Beerten has been a long time SRAM, RockShox, Avid and Truvativ athlete. Anne had a another great season, winning the UCI World Cup 4-Cross overall title.
